The Kindermusik Program

From birth to about seven years of age, all children have a natural attraction to music and movement. Research indicates that this is a critical time for the development of the child's innate musical capacity. Providing a nurturing musical environment is one of the greatest gifts parents can give to their children. In addition to promoting musical skills, research has shown that early music training nurtures cognitive, emotional, social, language, and physical development.

The Kindermusik Curriculum Series is a unique program of music learning and enjoyment for children birth to five years of age. The educators of this curriculum understand that every child is musical and that the parent is the child's most important teacher. The home, therefore, is the most important place for learning to develop and thrive, and Kindermusik classes empower parents to achieve this goal. Children are encouraged to explore, express, and discover without the pressure to perform. Kindermusik participation fosters developmental skills in language, literacy, listening, problem solving, social skills, self-esteem, and musicality. The Kindermusik Series is non-sequential meaning that your child can begin at any time at any of the three levels without missing crucial information. However, former students can continue in the same class and experience new challenges without repeating material. While Kindermusik instruction creates an environment that nurtures the total development of the child, it also lays the foundation for future formal music instruction if desired.

Kindermusik Village (from birth to 16 months) provides families the perfect introduction into our Kindermusik program and a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies. With Village, we open the door for parents and their babies (lap babies, crawlers, and walkers) to a learning and bonding experience unlike any other. Our licensed educators will help Baby learn about himself and the world through music as well as leading parents to discover the wonderful insights about their babies' unique development. Recent research in brain development affirms the need for intentional interaction through music and movement with babies of this age range for maximum development. The Home Materials Set includes a CD which features songs and chants from class plus additional material, a literature board book and art banners designed to enhance language development and visual tracking, a home journal for the parent to document observations about Baby's development, weekly Home Activity Cards, and a clear vinyl storage bag.

Kindermusik Our Time (from 16 Months to 3 years) stresses the interactive nature of the total development of the whole child in body, mind, and spirit. Children this age require enormous amounts of individual attention, therefore, opportunities abound in this class for parents to take the lead in playing, dancing, and singing with their child in an unhurried manner and in their own special way. Lots of singing fosters the language skills of listening and responding, while simple movement activities introduce socialization and group give-and-take. Motor activities challenge the body to be more self-aware and coordinated, and imitation and expressive movement offer a whole new means of expression. Through all this, the remarkable parent/child musical interaction and bonding that took root in Village continues to grow and blossom. The Home Materials Set includes two literature books, a specially designed instrument for play at home, a Home Activity book, and a CD.

Parents observe their children learning about music.

Imagine That (from 3 to 5 years) is designed for that crucial developmental period when a child moves from receptive to expressive learning. Fascinating musical exploration helps accustom children to being in class without a parent or caregiver present the entire time, although parents are encouraged to stay if they so desire. This program is especially created for children of this age to explore songs and expressive movement, to begin to recognize music dynamics and pitch, and to begin playing simple rhythms on percussion instruments. Just like the other levels of Kindermusik, family involvement in the child's learning is a fundamental cornerstone of the curriculum's philosophy. The Home Materials Set includes a picture songbook with colorful illustrations and musical notation, a CD, Parent's Home Activity Cards which go home weekly to introduce and encourage musical family activities, craft activities for sharing musical fun and learning at home, and a vinyl carrying bag.

An IPIX image is a 360º x 360º view. In other words, you can look up, down, and all the way around you as you view the image in the IPIX viewer. If you’ve never seen an IPIX image before, you probably will need to download the IPIX viewer. Two versions are available of the image. The low resolution version is only about 65KB, so it should download in less than 40 seconds over a 28.8 modem. The high resolution version is about 185KB, so it should download in less than two minutes over a 28.8 modem. It takes longer, but the image is more clear.
