Disney’s sensation High School Musical comes alive on TRC stage for anniversary
Release Date: 6/25/2008. Expired: 8/2/2008
Disney’s latest sensation comes to The Renaissance Center when the Mind Enriching Theatre series presents High School Musical on Stage this summer.
The MET series production of High School Musical on Stage will be offered for field trips Tuesdays through Fridays, June 18-Aug. 1. A special public performance will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, as part of the center’s 9th anniversary celebration.
Field trip performances are $4 per student. Tickets for the Aug. 2 public performance are $10.
“High School Musical has taken the nation by storm with two Disney Channel movies and a third installment heading to movie theaters this fall. It even has its own High School Musical on Ice tour,” said Amy Scott, assistant artistic director for The Renaissance Center. “Now this stage version of the original movie is giving fans a chance to see the characters come to life. We’re thrilled to be able to offer one of the hottest shows going right now on stages across the country.”
At East High School, the lines between the various cliques get crossed when basketball team captain Troy decides to audition for the school musical to impress Gabriella, a girl he met during the winter break who has recently enrolled. Meanwhile, science club president Taylor is trying to recruit Gabriella for an upcoming science decathlon. Conflicts arise between basketball and theatre, coach and principal, divas and jocks, brainiacs and skater dudes and other factions within the school.
Will the Wildcats win the championship game? Will Gabriella choose the science competition or the play? Will the whole school be able to come together and students set aside their differences?
For the last couple of years, The Renaissance Center’s MET series has added a summer production for field trips for schools on modified calendars, summer programs and camps. Performances of High School Musical on Stage can be scheduled for groups of 25 or more Tuesdays-Fridays, June 18-Aug. 1. Groups with less than 25 can join an already scheduled performance and individual tickets are available for scheduled performances if the theater is not full.
“We’ve discovered that many summer programs and camps are looking for exciting and entertaining field trip opportunities throughout Middle Tennessee,” said Scott. “Last year’s MET series production of SNOOPY!!! was extremely well attended and we received wonderful feedback for offering a live theatre opportunity during the summer months.”
