Meet the Musical Instruments concert provides chance to preview fall classes

Interested in music lessons for you or your child but unsure which instrument to learn? Then you don’t want to miss the Meet the Musical Instruments concert presented by The Renaissance Center’s Music Department on Thursday, Aug. 18.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert in the Performance Hall are $3.

The Renaissance Center offers private and/or group instruction for bagpipes, brass (trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba), banjo, bass guitar, cello, dobro, drums, dulcimer (lap and hammer), guitar (acoustic and electric), harmonica, harp, mandolin, piano, upright bass, viola, violin and woodwinds (flute, clarinet and saxophone). There also are classes in music composition, theory, recording, studio singing and voice.

Most of the instruments offered will be featured in the concert featuring the faculty of the music department.

“This is a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the instructors and instruments that are offered in The Renaissance Center’s Music Department,” says Elaine Sherrill, senior director of music. “You can find out which instrument you or your child is most interested in learning while also enjoying the talent and versatility of the Music Department staff.”

The concert will feature the faculty performing in solos, duets and ensembles to demonstrate the level of professionalism and talent available for instruction.

“It’s literally a chance for you to audition your instructors before choosing,” Sherrill said. “Not to mention the fact that the variety of instruments and performance styles will make for a very eclectic night of entertainment.”
